Where Do I Start As A Home Owner?

New home or build start below.

  1. Select your potential home site on land and you either need to own it, family own it with permission, or your purchasing the property.

  2. Stake the spot and the size of the home in the location you predict the build to happen. This will make sure myself and also the state inspector knows where it shall happen and can make a good decesion based on the location and soil map for the area.

  3. File for the Septic Permit at https://www.tn.gov/environment/permit-permits/water-permits1/septic-systems-permits/ssp/wr-sds-online-application-for-ground-water-protection-services.html.

You shall see a retangular banner on the middle of the screen in red that says Septic Service Request Application

  1. While selecting your county on the next page. It will ask you to select which type of septic. A residential home selects the first option which is New conventional septic system permit. Permit-Dwelling; conventional; new. NOTE: Blount County, Hamilton County, Knox County, and a couple others go through there local health Dept. for the permit and if you select these counties it shall give you a link to there direct website to apply.

  2. After you go through the rest of the process make sure you finish this application and pay. If you don't pay they will not come out or contact you. The process will take 1-3 weeks normally depending on how busy your county is or region. The inspector shall come to your property and draw a septic permit for you. He will then call you/email you the permit once completed. You would then give me that information so I can give you official numbers on completing your system. If the soil rating is unknown for your area he could require a soil map be done before issuing the permit.

  1. If a soil map is required the state can schedule a soil scientist to come out. You may have to do it yourself so its good to ask the inspector if they can or not. You will have to get on the website https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/environment/water/land-based-systems-unit/wr-sds-soil-consultants.pdf . Once here go down the list and call any in your surrounding areas. I would suggest listening to there full voicemail to learn how to reach them. They are very busy and hard to get ahold of. Our company can help you with this process if you need us too.

  1. If your permit is issued then please inform us so we can help you from there! If you had a soil map done let the inspector know and he will come out and issue it soon after.
